Perks of Living near London – or a post that my aunt will like

The other day my friend, Debbie, took me up to London to hear Jeremy Piven and Daniel Lewis speak.  Now Debbie is really into films, theatre, telly, actors, etc.  I never know who she’s talking about.  In fact, I said yes to this trip without knowing who I was actually going to see!  Anyroads, I’ve never really understood why she was so INTO IT.

Jeremy Piven

Then Jeremy Piven (aka Mr Selfridge) walked out.  OMG  I totally get it!  What charisma!  What eyes!  What shoes!  He was charming and funny.  He had the audience eating out his hands.  I’m now desperate to watch Entourage and everything else he’s ever been in.  He made a comment about wanting to work with Spike Jones, Spike Lee, any of the Spikes.  I’m now considering renaming Scooter Spike so that I can ring Mr Piven up and say that one of the Spikes wants to work with him! lol

Damian LewisDamian Lewis and his stripy socks wasn’t nearly so charismatic, but boy can he tell a story!  It took me about 15 minutes, but I totally warmed to him.  He truly is a lovely man with the most amazing vocabulary.  I don’t think he repeated a single word!  Fabulously educated (Eton) and went to the same acting school as Ewan McGregor (he had a fab story about every student talking about doing THEATRE where Ewan all the time said he was going to do films…don’t know how that worked out for him (!)  ).  I now want to watch Band of Brothers again, find Forsyth Saga, Life and Homeland.  Why I am I always late to the party? lol

Going up to this was so easy by train and has reminded me how much I love live theatre.  I’m now looking for opportunities to go and see pretty much anything.  I wonder if I should start a Kickstart campaign to fund this new obsession? lol

All Points Bulletin – Missing DT project

My DT project for Alter a Can over at That Craft Place 3 weeks ago never got posted.  I had that terrible bug that’s going round and felt like death.  I was able to just about get it done in time, but couldn’t get enough brain cells together to write a post about it! lol

I made the cut file on my awesome cammie for the balloon part and used Prima’s Stationer’s Desk for the patterned paper.  I used distress stains to stain chopsticks to connect to my altered can.  The altered can part is where it all went a bit pear shaped! lol

I covered a small bean can with embossing paste.  Before it set I pushed all kinds of metal embellishments like the heart with wings, the lightbulb, the leaf, and the watch that you can see into the paste.  Then I smeared paste over it all to make it white and to help hold the embellishments in place.  Now, because I was in a hurry (why do I procrastinate?) I started spraying everything with black and brown Dylusions before it was totally dry.  This was interesting…it kind of ‘melted’ the paste.  At one point I had almost the perfect colour.  Unfortunately, I didn’t walk away from the project at that point…this is something I’m working on! lol  Lastly, I used DecoArts Triple Thick spray to make it all shiny.  That turned everything slightly purple.  Again, because I didn’t wait for things to dry!  Damn procrastination!  Need to work on that after learning the point to walk away from the project.

I learned so much from this project.  Like double checking that the theme hasn’t changed whilst I wasn’t looking because it became alter anything which would have been so much easier!  And that everything takes me a long time so I should start much sooner.  LOL Seriously though, I do want to try adhering things to a can with modelling paste and using Dylusions to colour again.  I’d like to make an airship again too.

So, what project have you started and by the end hated because everything seemed to go pear shaped?

My other addiction…

Good morning from a sunny East Sussex!  I have a DT project for That Craft Place to share with you today.  This fortnight’s theme is Ribbons, Lace and Gems.  I was most perplexed when Sparkles clarified that it did indeed mean using all 3.  I’m not pretty any more, I’m grungy!  How was I going to pull this off?

Crafting is my absolute passion and addiction.  However, my other addiction is collecting shoes.  I love shoes…especially red shoes!  I’ve had the idea of making some paper shoes for sometime and this paper seemed to scream shoes to me.

Lots of crafty goodness from That Craft Place – the paper is from the fabulous Stationer’s Desk from Prima , the crochet flower is Crafts Too, the other flowers are Lisa’s own brand, the rose ribbon is available in other colours, that fabulous black bling is sold by the metre/yard as wide ribbon like stuff and comes in a multitude of colours.  I used alcohol inks (cranberry and ginger) to colour what was once a fushia mini clothes peg a more suitable colour.  Similarly, Dylusions in red and brown made white lace from my stash fit into the colour scheme.
