Back a million years ago, my riding coach used to say to me ‘Don’t be so scared of making a mistake that you don’t do anything!’ (I used to ride in the hunter classes and instead of making a correction (because I was afraid of making a mistake) I wouldn’t do anything and then it would snowball into a disaster…I had to learn to try…I didn’t get in trouble for doing the wrong thing if I at least did SOMETHING!) This is a problem in my wider world too and I often think of my coach’s advice, hence, the title of this post.
This is one of the new tags from That Craft Place Laser Cuts. I embossed the bottom layer with my x-cut machine (on offer at the mo from TCP), painted with yellow and orange, sanded back to reveal the first coat on the highlights, thought it was too bright and wanted to try a black wash, but am all out of black paint so tried soot distress stain which made it this lovely rich dark colour (which was then a bit too dark when I finished off the next layer so I dry brushed with white). The top layer is done with stucco texture paste (love this stuff…used it one of Mark Gould’s classes and had to have it!) then there’s lots of colours of paint and touch of yellow dylusions too (looks like I put some yellow dylusions on the bottom layer around the edges), and some more white dry brushing to bring out the textures. The heart was liberally spread with crackle texture paste (DecoArt), painted with deep burgandy (my fav colour at the moment), and wait for it…dry brushed with white paint. I love the saying (see above, lol) from PaperArtsy and stamped it brown archival ink on cream card. I glued it all together with DecoPage glue from DecoArts and then used that to seal everything because I love the finish.
