My sun, my moon, and all my stars

As with most of TCP’s new laser cuts, I love this star clock (there’s a heart one too).  It just spoke to me from the moment I saw it.  Originally I was going to use a Kahl and Khaleesi quote, but found this e.e. cummings poem that was even better.

The Past is Prologue

clock 2I put crackle paste and stucco paste on the stars.  I then painted the numbers is a splodgy manner with yellow, orange, blue and green.  The stars were done in yellow and the centre was yellow and orange.  I used my fave weathered wood product from Decoarts on the numbers and then dark blue.  I then used Cosmic Shimmer Shimmer Paint in yellow on the stars and sponged it through a stencil on the centre.  Lastly, I used alpha stamps and a stars stamp from PaperArtsy for my sentiment.  I was in a rush to share this project so didn’t take the 3 minutes to add the clock mechanism! lol

Ghosties and Goblins

I had so much fun making this project that I decided I like halloween after all!  I never used to like or really ‘do’ it despite being Canadian (as an adult that is).  I’ve also started ready Poe and am thinking about plastic rats, spiders, skulls and the like!  Apparently, old dogs can learn new tricks after all!

Beware of the spookiness!

This is one of TCP’s mini printer’s trays and a couple of their Halloween grab bags.  I used the awesome Graphic 45 Eerie Tales paper to line the different sections applying it with DecoArt decopage glue which I just love.  The cat, raven, hat, and bats were all painted black and highlighted with different cosmic shimmer guilding waxes.  The moon was done in orange and brown and again highlighted with wax.  The tombstone is ferro paint covered with grey and black.  The ghost and skull are in shades of white, ivory, and a bit of green for the ghost.  I painted the frame in orange, green and purple before using DecoArt’s weathered wood product to produce the crackle that appeared when covered with black.

Can you guess what this fortnight’s challenge is?

We’d love you to show us your spooky makes over at That Craft Place Challenge Blog.  Other links you might want to check out:

On a grey day…

The Past is PrologueIt’s a grey day in East Sussex and I needed cheering up.  The sentiment is true in so many ways…TCP is my happy place!  And I buy lots of things that add colour to my world…things like paint, paper, ink, pencils, gelatoes, not to mention classes and workshops!  The paintbrushes are, it goes almost without saying, some of Lisa’s laser cuts.  I painted them with DecoArt paints and put them on a wood plaque also from Lisa.  Both alpha sets are from Lisa as is the archival inks I stamped with.  Just something simple, but it did make me smile!  Hugs, Erin xx

Come Away with Me

Another new product from the brilliant Lisa over at That Craft Place.  There are three different styles too.  The Past is PrologueI painted the painted the shadow box in pale blue, purple, and pink in splodges.  I then used DecoArt’s weathered wood product and white paint to produce the crackle.  I put a piece of Graphic 45 paper on the back of the frame before putting it together.  I then used DecoArt stucco paste to add more texture (I seem to be addicted to texture at the moment…no CAS for me! lol)  I highlighted the lumps and bumps with coordinating colours of guilding waxes.  Finally, I played around with flowers and bits from the G45 pad.  I’m well pleased with how it turned! Thanks for visiting!

Early Valentines

As part of That Craft Place Natter Chatter group, we have monthly challenges set by the infamous Lorraine.  She always stretches us with the most outrageous requirements that make us better crafters.  September’s challenge was to make a Valentine tag for someone we’d really like to send a valentine to…real person, character in a film/book, celebrity,  etc.  I immediately chose Four from the fabulous Divergent books.

The Past is PrologueLots of texture paste, black paint, red guilding wax, my fave technique of embossed grey board painted in two colours and sanded back, clear texture paste and an Andy Skinner footprint stencil, patterned paper, burlap, crackle paste, ribbon, etc.  Oh, and plastic clips to hold wire because Lorraine made us include something that we wouldn’t normally use in crafting!  I found it in Prince Charming’s pocket…something to do with plumbing I guess?

In Canada, I taught a few classes of English.  I loved teaching it, but hated marking it even though I got to know my students in a totally different way than in maths.  The tag has all kinds of symbolism to the books…the brain is because you go inside Four’s brain, the words are the factions within the city’s politics that he’d like to unite (hence the string tying them together), his faction wears black, the texture is becuase he’s a bit rough round the edges…  Have I over thought it? lolThe Past is Prologue

You give me…

I just love this new MDF product from That Craft Place.  It’s called Driftwood and I keep thinking of other ways to use it.  It’s just so versatile!

TCP's Driftwood

TCP’s Driftwood

I painted light pink, light purple, and hot pink in a random manner (kind of like camouflage for a flamingo).  Then I used my fave DecoArt Weathered Wood product to produce the crackles.  I mixed purple and grey paint to come up with the perfect purple! lol  Then I covered it with Faux Finishing Medium to make the next step easier.  I don’t know if I needed to or not, but better safe than sorry! I put a layer of hot pink paint down, then a butterfly stencil, then wiped off the paint that wasn’t covered by the stencil.  Totally cool effect!  I even remembered to clean the stencil in my journal (the first background done in my dylusions journal that I bought almost a year ago! lol).  After everything dried I stamped the sentiment using Dylusions alpha stamps…OMG are those stamps ever lush…absolutely love them!

If the shoe fits…

One of my other obsessions is shoes.  I LOVE shoes!  In fact, my friends tease me about my shoe obsession and often post shoe memes on my Facebook.  When TCP released this cute laser cut I knew I had to have it.

The Past is PrologueI embossed the grey board using the xcut machine (Lisa has an amazing offer on this fab machine on at the mo), painted the frame part cream and used vintage photo distress stain to bring out the embossing.  I painted the shoe in two tones of red and sanded back to revel the lighter red on the raised parts.  I inked all the edges with archival black ink.  I also added a mirror which proved tricky to photograph as I didn’t want to appear in the photo! lol

Our theme this fortnight at That Craft Place is ‘Girly, but no pink.’  Hop on over to the blog and see my team mates’ amazing projects.
