Early Valentines

As part of That Craft Place Natter Chatter group, we have monthly challenges set by the infamous Lorraine.  She always stretches us with the most outrageous requirements that make us better crafters.  September’s challenge was to make a Valentine tag for someone we’d really like to send a valentine to…real person, character in a film/book, celebrity,  etc.  I immediately chose Four from the fabulous Divergent books.

The Past is PrologueLots of texture paste, black paint, red guilding wax, my fave technique of embossed grey board painted in two colours and sanded back, clear texture paste and an Andy Skinner footprint stencil, patterned paper, burlap, crackle paste, ribbon, etc.  Oh, and plastic clips to hold wire because Lorraine made us include something that we wouldn’t normally use in crafting!  I found it in Prince Charming’s pocket…something to do with plumbing I guess?

In Canada, I taught a few classes of English.  I loved teaching it, but hated marking it even though I got to know my students in a totally different way than in maths.  The tag has all kinds of symbolism to the books…the brain is because you go inside Four’s brain, the words are the factions within the city’s politics that he’d like to unite (hence the string tying them together), his faction wears black, the texture is becuase he’s a bit rough round the edges…  Have I over thought it? lolThe Past is Prologue

I’d like to enter the following challenges:
