Toad & MagicAnother book swap page today.  This one uses, surprise!, PaperArtsy stamps.  LOL  The background is gelatoes, which I love, but I’ve lerned that if you gesso the paper first they move better when it comes to blend.  I also do two layers.

Toad & MagicI had this idea that every page should be interactive in some small way.  This one has the big heart attached to elastic so that the sentiment (on shrink plastic so it fits!) can be revealed.  It says ‘Let yourself be drawn with an irresistible pull to what you really love.’

All supplies are from That Craft Place especially the greyboard pages!

Not a Card!!!

This fortnight’s challenge over at That Craft Place is NO CARDS!  I have two projects to share.  Both are MDF from Lisa.

Toad & MagicThe first is this bird house garland.  I’ve used two sets (3 bird houses in a set) and covered them with gorgeous paper from a recent DoCrafts Goody Bag.  The ribbon is also from the Goody Bag.

Toad & MagicToad & MagicThe other is a fantastic paint holder that I did up using the rust technique from Andy Skinner’s workshop.  London and England were stencilled using the England stencil from That Craft Place.  After using DecoArt’s One Step Crackle, I highlighted the cracks with Umber Antiquing Cream. I thought I’d keep the inside light, but now I wish I’d done the inside the same as the outside.  Oops!

Time is a dressmaker…

Toad & Magic

This is another page for the book swap.  This was made for a person who’s theme was sewing.  I think I was the only one that didn’t actually sew on the page! lol

Toad & Magic In case you haven’t been paying attention (lol), my favourite line stamps is PaperArtsy.  This page was the perfect excuse to buy this set that I’d had my eye on for ages.  I love that sentiment!

Friends Book Page

About 20 years ago, I bought my friend Renata a card that had this sentiment.  I’ve never forgotten it because it’s ever so true and trust me there’s a lot of broken fences in my life! 😉

Toad & Magic

The cute girls are from The Greeting Farm and are one of my favourite lines of people images.  The fence is a Memory Box die that I made look broken.  I think the background was done with gelatoes, but it might be distress inks (I made them before Christmas!).

Toad & Magic

The flowers, I’m sure you’re surprised by this, are PaperArtsy!  3 guesses to what I used to colour the girls and the first two don’t count! lol

Micky better watch out…

One day while washing the dishes (I almost missed that I had typed watching the dishes…I’m on really strong pain killers and I’m beyond floaty at the moment, please read this post with that in mind! lol), I had this original (I thought a few others had probably done it, but I thought I hadn’t ever seen one) idea of altering a mousetrap and using this cute (?) digi Sugar image from That Craft Place. After discovering that the mousetraps I bought on eBay were too small, I bought a rat trap (shudders).  Then, an altered trap appeared in my Pinterest feed!  Turns out there are hundreds of them out there!

Toad & Magic

IMG_0055At the recent Andy Skinner workshop two ladies accidental used Paines Grey Fluid Acrylic instead of the grey antiquing cream.  Results were not as anticipated!  The bottles looked identical with the exception of the wording.  I remember thinking…I must always read the label.  Guess I didn’t at one point…I put Quin gold on the embossed metal instead of red oxide antiquing cream.  Turns out it was a happy accident because I loved how it looked with the Patina antiquing cream! lol

IMG_0054The coloured image, as I said above, is a Sugar from TCP, the words are PaperArtsy stamps, the labels and label frames are Tim Hotz as is the skull.  I used polyshrink for the skull.  I coloured Sugar with copics, what else?, and applied a thick coat of Triple Thick.  Love that stuff!  Her hair was more purple before the triple thick.

The challenge over at TCP this fortnight is Altered.  It’s a good thing I did a second project because I was cursed this week!

We have a dt group that we post our pics on for the challenge blog (we might have a bit of banter and fun in there too! lol).  Here’s what I put when I couldn’t get my computer to play nice with the internet.

I have pictures of my project. I can’t get watermarks on them (no images) because flash keeps crashing on my computer. I can’t get the pictures uploaded in to the album for the same reason. I’m feeling entirely cursed today. 1) lost my main project somewhere in my house 2) took 4 pictures of 2nd project, uploaded them to the computer to have only 2 show up when I went to edit them 3) took 2 more pictures to replace the 2 that disappeared and uploaded them 4) only to have the first two pics disappear so took those pictures again 5) couldn’t get pictures to upload to picmonkey to put watermark on them 6) can’t get them on here

There might have been some swearing too…

Toad & Magic

I liked the quin gold embossed mirri card accident on the trap that I did it again on purpose for this altered coffee jar.  I wanted it to look like an ancient bottle that had been in a shipwreck for hundreds of years.  While I was swirling and drying the Prussian Blue paint for the inside of the jar I managed to spill blue paint on the carpet.  Prince Charming was not impressed.  Should you ever need to know…surgical spirits (aka rubbing alcohol across the Atlantic) takes out acrylic paint.

Fantasy Book Page

Actually, this was the first page I did for the swap.  I sat down and just played with distress inks with no idea what direction was going.  I decided the background looked magical and thus Fantastical! lol

Toad & Magic

Toad & MagicThe acorn house is from Lavinia Stamps, the texturey bits are PaperArtsy.  The words are Stampotique. One of my ‘things’ is interactive parts.  This idea came to me and wasn’t nearly as easy as I first imagined! lol  There’s a little wheel that spins and reveals a knock knock joke.  Sad I know! lol

The most amazing swap ever!

Toad & Magic

One of my dt teamies set up a book swap in a Facebook groups she runs.  About 10 of us signed up and then a few more got added over time.  We each picked a theme, mine was books which I’ll do a post about.  Then everyone made a 5×5 page for each person’s theme.

My awesome friend Mandy choose Family as her theme.  This was the perfect excuse to pull out some, okay lots, of PaperArtsy stamps.  I had thought of an old family album filled with pictures.  I stamped the images with, what else?, Vintage Photo distress ink! lol

Toad & Magic

I wrote faux family names on the back and gave them relational titles like Uncle so and so and Nanny with her sisters just for a bit of fun.

Toad & Magic

I’ve always wanted to do one of those penny spinners…there’s a quote under there too.  I’d tell you what it was if I could find the stamp…

The background was done with decoart acrylics in browns, weathered wood medium, and buttermilk.

Lisa over at That Craft Place cut my pages out greyboard.  I bought pretty much everything used on here there as well.

Oops! You may light up my life, but I’m still forgetful…

Oops!  I forgot to blog my project for this months Challenge over at Altered Eclectics.

Toad & Magic

This was inspired by the famous Andy Skinner.  I started by gathering up embellishments and pieces of mdf (many that came in my latest DT pack from That Craft Place…actually, the only thing that didn’t come from TCP is the Tando clock which I won in challenge and the markers I used for the writing).  I arranged and rearranged pieces until I was happy with the layout.  I then glued the hinge and flourish to the mdf heart and added the stucco texture paste here there and everywhere.

On the mdf rectangle (lacking any straight edges! lol) I attached a piece of ugly green embossed card.  I painted it with Prussian Blue fluid acrylics from the media line of DecoArts.  I also painted the key and heart with Prussian blue.

The clock was covered with stucco texture paste and shades of grey paint before painting it with Quinacridone Gold (my new favourite paint!).

I put Patina Green antiquing cream (you totally need this in your life if you like to make your altered projects look aged!) on the heart and the rectangle and wiped back.  I coated it with faux finishing medium to protect the antiquing cream as it never cures until you varnish it.  Then I used Umber and Red Oxide antiquing creams, wiping back and protecting with faux finishing medium.  On the rectangle, I also used White antiquing cream.

I can’t remember what all I did on the key as I just kept experimenting until I was happy with how it looked.

Toad & Magic

I finally glued everything down, added the light, wrote the sentiment with a white sharpie pen after the gold one didn’t really show, and added the cute angle embellishment (which I aged with Umber and Green Patina antiquing creams).

I’ve put this up in the bathroom (where it matches the colour we’re forced to live with since we rent) and I can admire it everyday.  The workshop with Andy Skinner was totes amazeballs and highly recommend it anyone!
