Stockings were hung…

Toad & Magic

Just a quick post from me today.  This is one of the stunning MDF stockings that I got from That Craft Place.  I painted it in Lime Gold Cosmic Shimmer Shimmer paint then stenciled Violet Shimmer Paint through a stencil.  I used Cosmic Shimmer PVA pearls to make the pearls (which would be why they’re all a bit mishappen and different sizes) and to do the cuff of the stocking.  I love how this gives a mother of pearl look!

Creative Expressions Heart

Toad & Magic

This was going to be one my projects for that DT call I was talking about.  I glued a piece of rose embossed cardstock (a Sue Wilson A4 folder) and a die cut from a Sue Wilson die to a Creative Expressions heart.  I primed everything with gesso then painted with DecoArts fluid acrylic in Prussian Blue (such a lush colour) mixed with a bit of gesso to lighten.  I did a bit of dry brushing with Prussian Blue neat.  I pulled out flowers from my stash and even opened my box of extra special flowers from Petal Lu.  A bit of blue velvet ribbon, cheese cloth, and I was pleased with the result.

This pic shows the gorgeous die from Sue Wilson.

You can just about see the rose embossed card in this pic.

Of course, everything, including the Petal Lu flowers are from That Craft Place.

Finnabair Inspired Bauble

It’s exactly 2 months until CHRISTMAS! Are you done your shopping? lol  I’ve got a couple already, but only a few ideas for the rest…I’ll have to get me thinking cap on!

It’s the Mixed Media Team’s turn over at That Craft Place.

Toad & Magic

This is my Finnabair inspired creation.  I started with one of the fabulous Creative Expressions mdf baubles (small one in this retro shape) and glued all kinds of bits’n bobs before covering everything with white gesso.  Out came my Dylusions sprays in ‘my colours’ (they actually started out as my mum’s colours, but after always buying her things with blue, green, & purple in them they’ve become me colours too.  Same thing happened to me with pansies and my gram.).  I kept spritzing until I was happy and then when dry I sprayed it with DecoArt’s fabulous Triple Thick spray.  The spray was able to cover all the nooks and crannies that I would have made a big mess of with a brush and triple thick.  There it sat for awhile for inspiration to strike.  I came across this sketch and viola! Inspiration had struck! lol To make the decorative paper I used the same Dylusions on the super smooth paper from TCP.  I love how this paper takes the sprays.  I also spritzed a bit of a silver spray that I bought a million years ago and never used on the Dylusions paper and black card for the mats.  The tag is a Sue Wilson die from Creative Expressions.  The bauble is removable and the inside will peek through the aperture.  On the day I stamped and embossed the sentiment (a very old PSX one) in Snowflake embossing powder because my detail white had gone walk about.  I found it the day after! lol

Lisa/Mark Fusion Tag

This week saw the debut of Lisa Horton, owner of That Craft Place, on Hochanda.  She absolutely knocked it out of the park!  I saw many comments over Facebook about how she inspired people to get grungy.  I was no exception and here’s what I created!

Toad & Magic

On this Creative Expressions MDF tag, I used Cosmic Shimmer Shimmer paints in Green Lime, Peacock, and Violet.  I started with a coat of each paint (starting with Green Lime) and then sanding back to reveal the layers (an awesome technique that I learned in a Mark Gould workshop).  I then used one of the Wendy Vecchi stamps from the show in black archival ink.  I painted paper with the the violet and peacock paints (where they overlapped they mixed to a pretty blue) and then used a script stamp to give the flowers a bit of texture.  The flowers are from another Wendy Vecchi stamps (again from the show).  The green twigs are from a Sue Wilson die and paper painted with peacock.  The hideous flower centres are Cosmic Shimmer pva pearls that I completely fubared…not the fault of the glue! lol  I also attempted to channel my inner Lisa and did some swirls with the pva pearls.  Some cheesecloth and black ribbon finished it off.

What do the Cosmos do to you?

Toad & MagicI’ve got some glass bead gel that I tried using ‘neat’ and through a stencil.  It was so pretty on the black paper, but then I started to play! lol  Out came my CE Shimmer Paints and then it looked like the pictures from the Hubble Telescope.  I really love how this page turned out.

Making the days count…

Toad & Magic

I love watching Marta Lapkowska videos.  She’s an epic mixed media journal page maker.  This page is based on her and someone that I found via Pinterest that I can no longer find.  The second person recommended glass bead gel.  Love this stuff!  It’s clear, but I mixed with blue cosmic shimmer spray.  I used stamps from Creative Expressions on here too.  Purple, green, and blue are ‘my colours.’

I have no idea why that quote came to mind when I saw the stamp stamp!

Danger! Danger! Danger!

Toad & Magic

I was going to throw my hat into the ring for a dt call.  I would have loved to have been on the team (it’s an epic company), but I think the timing is off for me.  It’s quite a commitment with one project a week and a tutorial a month so I thought I’d start practicing being that prolific before the next call because I DO want to be on that team!  Well, at least apply for that team! lol

I thought I’d do a journal page for the call because it’s a bit different, but it’s also very me. So, I took a ton of photos and I’m not letting them go to waste! lol

Toad & Magic

Starting with the upper right and then moving in a clockwise direction (because I’m a maths person through and through) here’s how I created this page.

  1. I used a bit of embossed card in an ugly colour.  This is rose A4 folder from Sue Wilson.  It’s a really lovely folder that’s going to be on a lot of projects!  I ripped up some pieces and glued them down with the incomparable Cosmic Shimmer glue.
  2. After all three pieces were glued down.
  3. I found this awesome tape in my ribbon stash when I was tidying up the other day.  I have absolutely no idea when or how this came into my possession nor any answer to why I haven’t been using it!!!  It’s now on my desk so that I can remember to use it.  I love the texture (it’s laser cut or something awesome).  I thought the paint (oops! I forgot to gesso everything first) would cover it up better, but I actually like the black on this page.
  4. I painted over everything with Cosmic Shimmer Shimmer Paint in three colours trying to channel my inner Kate Crane (so excited to have her as one of the tutors on the Wonderlust series that Prince Charming has said he’ll get me for me birthday!).
  5. That was a bit of an epic fail and I hated the outcome at this point.  I decided to gesso over everything and walked away.
  6. I came back to do a second coat when I realised the gesso softened the colours and I was now in love with the effect! And I wiped back the gesso on the black rose tape.
  7. I pulled out my Cosmic Shimmer gilding waxes and highlighted the textures of the embossing folder (the upper left is the embossed side and the other two are the debossed side.  I can’t decide which side I like best.  Did I mention I’ll be using this folder A LOT! LOL)  I also edged the pages with a bit of DecoArts Fluid Acrylic in Carbon Black on my finger to tie in with the tape.
  8. By this time, I had decided not to throw my metaphorical hat and stopped with the photos! lol  But, I grabbed the gorgeous butterfly stencil from That Craft Place and clear sparkle texture paste from Creative Expressions.  Lisa said I’d love it and I wasn’t sure, but once it dried I was utterly impressed.  After that, I grabbed another new stencil from That Craft Place (the lines one) which I’ve never used before.  There seems to be a bit of a theme on this page of using new things! lol I really like the simple texture this stencil gives and think it will become one of my old faithfuls!  I decided to add a bit of depth by adding a shadow with a mixture of DecoArts transparent white and Payne’s grey fluid acrylics.  I’ve never free handed something like this before, but there’s a couple of places that I’m quite proud of.  I used the same grey mixture to stamp a Paper Artsy dots stamp in a few places.  I saw this idea of using words cut from book paper on Pinterest (originally from Curly Girl Design) and the sentiment is from a tweet (Phil Draws).  You can get inspiration from anywhere! lol  I’m annoyed that I couldn’t get the words to behave and line up straight, but it is my first time with this idea (theme! You could play a drinking game while reading this post and be sloshed!).

Phew!  If you got this far thank you!
